Legis It!: Direct Resolution Suggestion System
Institutionalizing participatory governance, the Legis It!: Direct Resolution Suggestions System will be created to allow students to submit policy suggestions directly to the Student Assembly.
Suggestions will be reviewed on a regular schedule, endorsed to appropriate committees, and publicly tracked to ensure accountability. Students who submit proposals will be informed of the status of their suggestions, fostering trust in the legislative process.
Act-ivize!: Participatory Governance and Legislative Capacity Program
Strengthening student governance by linking sectoral engagement, advocacy development, and legislative action across SAMAHAN units, clusters, and partner student bodies. Through two student-centric programs:
The Multisectoral Council Convention
- ·An annual gathering of SAMAHAN sectors and clusters beyond formal Student Assembly sessions. The convention serves as a space for advocacy presentation, project transparency, recruitment, and dialogue. Each sector and cluster will present their core advocacies, ongoing initiatives, and plans for the academic year.
- ·Advocacy booths will allow students to engage directly with representatives, raise concerns, and register as members or volunteers. All concerns and proposals raised will be consolidated by the Office of the Vice President into a Post-Convention Issue Report to be endorsed to relevant Student Assembly committees for legislative consideration.
The Ateneo Parliament: Beyond the Gates
- ·TAP: BTG is a Davao-wide legislative capacity-building initiative that equips students with the skills needed to act on sectoral concerns.
- ·Building on the existing program of the OSVP, this institutionalizes and expands regular training and workshops on legislative literacy, resolution drafting, committee work, and participatory governance. Sessions will be conducted in partnership with Student Assembly members, external resource persons, offices like BUKLOD Atenista, UNYON Mindanao, and other partner schools.
Students for Locale: Strengthening Our Participation Through Local Legislation
- ·Strengthening participation in local legislation that forwards and puts students' concerns at the forefront. This ensures that concerns are translated into real, binding action that improves student life both inside and beyond the university.
- ·Through connecting with Local Government Units, like the Davao City Youth Development Council (DCYDC), this ensures that relevant resolutions, particularly in relation to education and youth-based concerns, will be forwarded to the locale and felt by the locals outside the university gates.
- ·The OSVP will be a bridge between student sectors and lawmakers by gathering concerns, helping shape policy proposals, and making sure student voices are well represented in legislation.
Take up Space!: Integrated Learning Access Program
A student-centered initiative that improves access to both conducive study spaces and essential academic resources, recognizing that effective learning depends on environment and tools.
Lobbying for Additional Study Spaces
While the university provides libraries and classrooms, demand rises sharply during peak academic periods, often leading to overcrowding and limited access, particularly affecting students who rely on campus facilities due to home constraints. Silid Aralin addresses these gaps through lobbying and maximizing available study spaces while strengthening support for students' academic needs.
SAMAccess+ (Subscription Aid Program)
- ·A pilot initiative that explores partnerships and negotiated access to essential academic and productivity tools commonly used by students. These may include writing and editing software (e.g., Grammarly), academic research and scholarly literature databases, citation, and reference management tools.
- ·Through student needs assessments, pilot distributions, and feasibility evaluations, SAMAccess+ will identify which tools provide the most impact and can be sustainably expanded. The program prioritizes equitable access while ensuring responsible use of resources.
